LET OUR CHILDREN PLAY SAFELY... TOUCH A TRUCK FUNDRAISER

The town of Cromwell, CT is trying to raise money for new playscapes at the two elementary schools in town.  Right now the children have no playscapes at either school to play on, and parents would like to see their children have a safe place to play... not just blacktops.

On September 6th, (raindate September 14th) from 9:00am to 2:00pm, the Children's Committee "Project Recess Rescue" is going to hold a fundraiser called "Touch a Truck" in efforts to raise money for playground equipment at Edna C. Stevens and Woodside Intermediate Elementary Schools. Admission to the event costs $5.

The parents' group hopes to replace an old wooden playscape at the elementary school, which was taken down over a year ago and to also install a new playscape at Woodside which has never had one.

So come on over to Pierson Park on West Street. in Cromwell, CT.  The young children will be able to touch, and sit in one of many vehicles, such as a firetruck, police vehicles, landscaping truck, oil trucks constructin truks.. or for the older children how about a Mercdes.

Free food and water will be provided by the 99 Restaurant There will also be free children's identification cards provided by Amber Alert.  Face painting, temp tattoos, will also be there for activities for the children to do.If you have ever wanted to ride in a hot-air balloon, you can do so from 9 to 10:30 a.m. (for an additional cost) offered by ReMax.

Valerie, I have heard of other towns doing this type of event.  Hope you guys raise lots of money.  I have never been up in a hot-air ballon, and would like to do that if I can get over there during that time.  But sitting inside "Police Cars" is something that I try to avoid doing ........... LOL

George... I think the hot-air balloon is a great idea for the adults.  As far as the police car, I believe that to be for the YOUNG children.  But if you want, we can make an exception.  LOL.

This sounds like a wonderful charitable adventure. I can't imagine an elementary school without a playground. I'm glad this is being done. Kids need exercise and fun to stay healthy and well-rounded.

Lisa... Thank you for reading my blog, and commenting.  Yes, I too, hope that this brings in a lot of money... children need playscapes, if nothing more than to use their imagination, and to be able to dream.

Val-This is really wonderful. I remember when my son was in elementary school and I was on the PTO. We had fundraisers to get playground equipment for the kids. I can still see those kids the first day they got to play on the equipment.  When I ride by the school and see the kids playing on the equipment, it brings back some really good memories.

I hope you raise alot of money and can get all the playground equipment needed for the kids.

Laura, I hope we do too.  I know I will be there, I've been asked to face paint... I've never done this. What I'd like to do, is to go on the hot-air balloon ride.. I've never done that.

Val , To touch and sit in a firetruck , I imagine this will be well attended, sounds like a well thought out plan (but you'll raise more money if you sell the water and give away the food). Steve

Steve.. I like the idea of sitting in the Mercedes... as long as I get the keys too.  LOL.  For the money, I'm going to try the hot air balloon.

What a GREAT idea! I have never heard of a "touch a truck" event. I can image this will be a super event. I can see children's eyes getting BIG as they are aloud to touch HUGE trucks, and I can see others sitting in Mercedes. Heck, I have never sat in one of those. But I can say when I was a lot younger I dated someone that had a Bricklin....
