In my opinion the media today is trying to bail themselves out for an inaccurate (once again) forecast of the weather.
Yesterday, all I heard on the radio, when it came to the weather, is that a storm is coming through Connecticut and we should see snow anywhere from 3 to 4 inches. Living in Cromwell, (central part of the state) I was looking forward to this... so were my children... they were hoping for a day off... but would settle for a 90 minute delay.
The storm was supposed to start Tuesday afternoon... then it was moved to 10pm with a big inch 2 inches (dumped) on us. Come on people.. where is this a storm? It is just a snowfall... barely.
This morning in Cromwell, there was nothing but rain. There was ice on the windshields.. but nothing much. There is NO school delays here.. and they are only a handful of schools across the state that have a 90 minute delay (not lots of delays.. as stated). Cars are traveling at a normal pace here.
The media is out there pushing the icy conditions. One reported said "There ARE icy conditions all along Route 9 South"... the sign flashing in the background stated "POSSIBLE icy conditions". Don't get me wrong.. I can't say there isn't some icy areas in Connecticut (most like in the northwest part of the state)... but not here in Cromwell.
To me the media is trying to sensational this *want to be storm* because they failed at their initial forecast and are trying to save face. We were supposed to get 3 inches of snow.. now it is rain that is falling on the road to have (possible) 1/10th of an inch of ice. Can we believe this?
As I am sitting here I can see vehicles traveling at normal speed on the road... I don't hear spinning of tires, or the sound of crunching ice. I just now heard the forecaster say the road conditions are "wet and slushy". Can they get their story straight?
The news is now saying that there are "Two more storms coming our way". One on Friday and another on Sunday into Monday". My son replied when he heard this... "Why should we believe them.. they were wrong about this storm"?
So, what I am trying to get across here.. if the media fails to report the weather accurately, imagine how they have misrepresented the real estate market, by blowing that out of proportion. The public believed them.. and bought into it.. which made it worse.
Why are we taking what the media says as the word of GOD, and not with a grain of salt? I think we NEED to start thinking outside the box... and for ourselves. Do you agree?
