This day seems like it is a day to blog out things outside real estate. I was "Friendship Ball" tagged, so now I thought I would blog about a recipe, and keep the day light... for a change.
Being this is "apple" season, I thought I would share this recipe. This recipe was given to me from my grandmother.. I've made it every year, and have tweaked it a little to enhance the flavor so the whole family now loves it. Yes, this is the same grandmother that gave me the German Donut recipe. Enjoy.
German Apple Cake
3 Cups Flour (all purpose flour, I find works best)
2 Cups Sugar
1 Cup vegetable oil
4 large eggs, or 5 medium
3 Tsp baking powder
1 Tsp ground cloves
1 Tsp nutmeg
½ Cup Orange Juice
5 Large Cortland Apples (peeled and sliced thin)
5 Tbs Sugar
3 Tsp Cinnamon
In a large mixing bowl combine the first 8 ingredients. The batter will be thick; so don't be alarmed. In another bowl, medium sized, mix the apple slices with the cinnamon and sugar until well coated.
In a greased bundt pan pour ½ of the batter, followed by a layer of apple slices, only use ½ of the slices. With the remaining batter, pour ¾ of it over the apple slices; then layer again with remainder of apples. Pour remainder ( ¼ ) of the batter. This will only coat some of the apples, but when it bakes it should coat the rest.
Bake cake at 350° for 90 minutes.
Cool and invert to remove cake from bundt pan. When completely cooled sprinkle with confectionery sugar.
