Yesterday I was out having brunch with my son, when I heard a couple behind me in the restaurant talking about their realtor and the bad experience they had buying their new home. I ignored it until I heard the phrase "Realtors are just like doctors, and attorneys.. they don't care, they are just in it for the money". At this point I could not sit there without saying something.
I turned around and introduced myself to this couple. I also mentioned that I was sorry to hear they had a bad experience with buying their home. Then I asked them if they interviewed their realtor? Their response was "no". They just heard their realtor was good. I continued by saying that if they went to a doctor, and they needed surgery, they would get a second opinion. So, why not interview your realtor? See how they will help you, ask if they have referrals. "You are investing a lot of money... don't put it in the hands of someone you don't feel comfortable with". Once again I apologized for them not getting the service they were looking for, (I knew it was too late for them), but if they did know of friends that were looking for a home, to pass this bit of advice on. Of course, I also gave them my business card.... they asked for it.
I think realtors should be interviewed.. don't you? There should be a working relationship between the two parties. Not every Realtor and buyer are compatible, and since the buyers are putting up a lot of money, why not do this? Not all realtors are bad, you just need to find one that works for you.
