Good home inspectors are hard to find. When a buyer is having a home inspection done, I always cringe when my buyers choose an inspector I don't professional know/ or have worked with in the past. Buying a home/condo is nerve racking especially for a first time homeowner. I think all buyers should have the property they are planning on buying inspected; but by a home inspector that knows their job, and does it well without being an alarmist.
I have had a few deals fall through because of dramatic inspectors. For example, clients of mine were buying a condo that was about 8 years old. The inspector they chose had done inspections in a complex down the road from this one 10 years earlier. He noticed that the plumbing joints were the same as the other complex. Unit owners of the other complex complained that they broke and were installed wrong when they were built. The inspector told my clients, rooms were flooded, and items were distroyed. The unit owner got together and sued the builder. My clients ran scared.. I don't feel there was a need for this.. there was nothing wrong with these joints in *this* unit. Later the inspector said he might have gone overboard... DO YOU THINK????
FYI to all realtors in Connecticut. As of late, I have worked with great inspectors... one being Pillar to Post out of Lyme, CT... in case you are looking for one.
