I am a local realtor in Cromwell CT and have been working for Johnson Real Estate for over 10 years, I feel I have a pretty good handle on the process of assisting clients when it comes to finding rental properties.
Last week I helped out a gentlemen in trying to find an apartment to rent. He had gone through a divorce but was still on good terms with his ex. She came along to view the condo too. I must say this is not something you see every day.
We found a place he liked and he filled out a rental application. Knowing that his credit isn't that good, he had a co-signer join in on the application.
I called the listing agent and explained the situation.. he said to proceed and process the application. When the credit report came back there wasn't any surprises.. it was exactly how my client explained it would be. With this I called the other realtor and went over everything. In turn he called his client and got back to me saying that they wanted someone with good credit living in the unit, and would be passing on my client. Why didn't he tell me this in the beginning so I could save my client the app fee? This took me aback, but there is nothing I can do about it.
I left a detailed message with my client about the out come, and how I would help him find another property. Wtihin a little while, his ex-wife calls, and wants to know what his FICO score was and how he could improve his credit. I explained I could not relay this information to her. She then insisted that I must not have run the credit and *she* wants the check back that went pay for this.
Not getting anywhere with me she hung up.
Why would anyone think that FICO scores are public knowledge? I work for my clients and protect their interests.. plain and simple.
