I've been in real estate for years now, and it never seizes to amaze me when potential buyers (usually first time home buyers) insist on bringing their WHOLE familyto view the properties they are interested in.
A few years back I had a client that insisted that she bring EVERYONE in her family. Not only did this include parents, but her siblings... and their spouses. With them, came her 3 cousins, with their spouses... and get this... their children. Friends also were mandatory, which consisted of 4 of them. By the time we were done, there was anywhere from 13 to 17 people to view her first home... which was to be a condo. Try fitting everyone in. They went in shifts.
As realtors, we know how difficult it is to start with just trying to get all the immediate people scheduled. Trying to coordinate the seller, buyer and realtors is enough, especially if you are going to more than 2 homes at one time.... now to incorporate another 12 people is INSANE.
When I suggested that she take one or two people for the initial viewing, then take others back should she find a place she likes, might be a better alternative. She was getting frustrated not being able to see the units she wanted because not everyone could make it. Also, everyone was giving her different opinions. What ever happened to the professional's opinion....ME? All other opinions matter more... no one in this group trusted realtors... no matter what company they worked for.
To make a long story short... she NEVER bought anything... she ended up living at home. Go figure. I don't think she gave herself enough credit to be able to do anything on her own. I think given the chance she would have done just fine. The moral of this story is "The only one you need to please... Is YOURSELF".
