Use A Rain barrel!!!

I read this blog by Kristin Johnston, and I thought it would be a good idea to reblog and get out to as many members as possible.  This way we can inform our clients about this, and also have one at our homes as well.

My hubby and I are trying to do even more to become Greener in 2011.  One of the choices we have made is to purchase a rain barrel system.  We found this one locally, and purchased it yesterday.  You have to check out the cool video on the RainReserve site!  We chose this system b/c it is mosquito proof, unlike most with a simple mesh barrel top, and the diverter system is top notch too!  Check them out and do your part for Mother Earth!

RAIN BARRELS REDUCE RUNOFF

Lawn and garden watering can make up nearly 40% of total household water use during the summer.  This means your water bill may almost double during summer months.  A rain barrel collects water and stores it for when you need it to water plants, wash your car or add to a swimming pool.  The rain water stored in the barrel contains no chlorine, lime or calcium—it is naturally “soft" water.

RainBarrel

A single rain barrel will save most homeowners about 1300 gallons of water during the peak summer months.  Saving water  not only saves you money and energy, but it helps our environment.  Diverting water from downspouts keeps that water from becoming runoff into our rivers and streams, and means less water needs to be pumped out of our shrinking aquifers.

Waukesha County now has rain barrels available at Retzer Nature Center located at S14 W28167 Madison Street, Waukesha.  These rain barrels use the rain reserve diverter kit developed by Sustain Dane.  You can see the benefits of this system at www.rainreserve.com.   Prices are:

waterdrop  $100 for a single barrel and diverter kit
waterdrop  $130 for two barrels and tandem diverter kit
waterdrop  $75 for a single diverter kit with no barrel
waterdrop  $95 for a tandem diverter kit with no barrels
(sales tax will be added to all sales)
